DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE

Of all human endeavors the founding of a centre of learning which is aimed at civilizing the people and there by enriching their cultural heritage is perhaps the most rewarding. Way back in 1914A.D, the decision taken by the then Madras Government to provide educational facilities to the people of Ceded Districts was an event of Historic significance. Ones this region had seen the glorious days of Vijayanagar Empire. Due to some Historical forces that were at play the region became backward and neglected. But with the inception of ceded districts college In 1916 a new chapter was opened .The aspiring youth of the region could look forward to the fulfillment of their cherished desire to resuscitate the broken tradition of enlightenment left behind by the vijayanagara rulers

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

From the inception of the college the department of History is functioning In the beginning History was start in combination with English Literature Logic And Telugu Literature as the time passed Department of History assumed most important place among the other subjects new sections were started with the fallowing combinations 1). History, Philosophy, English Literature. 2).History, Political science, Telugu Literature. 3).History, Political science, Hindi Litrature.4) History, English Literature, Communicative English. Subsequently when Telugu was made as medium of instruction all the above mentioned groups were offered in Telugu medium. At present the department offers the following Combinations (it caters to the need of a most 2000 students ). 1. History, Literature and Communicative English. 2) History, Telugu Literature and Political science.3) History, Hindi Literature and Political science.4) History, Journalism and Public Administration 5. History, Economics and Political science (Both Mediums). 6.Archaeology, History, and Economics(2017-18 onwards).

P.G. Course of History started in the academic year 2013-14 with different specialization papers.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL AND PLANS FOR IMPROVEMENT

  • Staff meeting is conducted at the end of every month.
  • Review the targets along with review of results of SEM wise.
  • Discuss the measures to be taken for the improvement of performance of students, like remedial coaching, debates, seminars, workshops etc.
  • Identification of the students who have not performed as expected and to give special coaching to such students.

FUTURE PLANS:

We aim to provide upward mobility to each student so that he improves his

  • Interactive skills
  • Exposure and accumulation of information

We want to provide not only emotional support and encouragement, but also provide material resources and information necessary to face the present day world.

The department has excellent infrastructure for the growth and development of the students intellectually and physically. Department provides from its Library latest books to the students. It also keeps itself in touch with latest trends in the subject by regular contacts with University development

TOURS/EXCURSIONs

  • 100 Students participated in World Tourism Day celebrations at National Park on September 27, 2016 along with Smt. N. Padmavathi, In-charge, and Lecturers 1. Sri K. Anantha Reddy, 2. Dr. K. Sudhakar.
  • On 2th November, 2016 conducted one day study tour under the leadership of Sri K. Anantha Reddy to Penugonda, Second Capital of Vijayanagara empire. 68 UG Students participated in this programme.
  • On 11th November, 2016 conducted one day excursion under the leadership of Smt. N. Padmavathi, In-charge of the department, Dr. K. Sudhakar, Lecturer in History to Hemavathi, Capital of Nolambas, Rathnagiri Fort. 100 UG and PG students participated in this programme.
  • From 23-09-2017 to 25-09-2017 conducted Historical tour along with 50 students under leadership of Sri.K.Anatha Reddy, Dr.K.Sudhakar, M.Narayana Swamy, M.Ganapathi Naik. The Places are Kanchipuram, Mahabalipuram, Pandicherry, Hoginekal water falls, Vellore and Thiruvannamalai in Tamilnadu.
  • On the occasion of pappuri ramachari Jayanthi 122 anniversary celebrations conducted the dept of History on 8.11.2017 .A. Harinatha reddy , Grand son of Pappuri rAMACHAR sreedhar
